Claim: A cluster of overlapping theories claiming COVID-19 was intentionally engineered and released as a bioweapon, that vaccines contain microchips for population tracking/control, or that the pandemic itself was fabricated ("plandemic") by pharmaceutical companies and governments for profit and control.

Origins: Emerged within weeks of the outbreak in early 2020, spreading rapidly through social media, amplified by the genuine scientific uncertainty of a fast-moving crisis and by real controversies (e.g., the legitimate, unresolved scientific debate over whether the virus originated naturally or via a laboratory-related incident in Wuhan, which is distinct from the debunked "bioweapon" and "microchip" claims).

Why it's false: mRNA vaccine ingredients are public and independently verified by regulators worldwide; no microchip small enough to pass through a vaccine needle without detection exists. Genomic analyses of SARS-CoV-2 are consistent with natural evolution, showing no signs of deliberate bioweapon engineering, according to the scientific consensus, even though the precise origin (natural spillover vs. lab-related accident) remains genuinely debated among virologists.
