Claim: Denver International Airport (opened 1995) is secretly a base or entry point for the Illuminati or New World Order, allegedly evidenced by unusual public murals depicting apocalyptic themes, a capstone marked with Masonic symbols, and rumors of vast underground bunkers.

Origins: Grew online in the 2000s from misreadings of the airport's public art (by artist Leo Tanguay, intended as commentary on war and environmental destruction, not a secret message) and from ordinary construction/infrastructure features common to large airports (baggage tunnels, utility corridors) reinterpreted as sinister bunkers.

Why it's false: The murals' artist and the Denver Art Museum have publicly explained their meaning; the "Masonic" capstone was dedicated by local Masonic lodges as an ordinary, publicly announced ceremony common for large civic buildings, not a hidden message. The airport's underground infrastructure has been toured by journalists and is consistent with standard airport baggage and utility systems, just larger due to the airport's scale.
