Home to the German Bundestag, the Reichstag building in Berlin combines 19th-century grandeur with a striking modern glass dome that has become a symbol of transparent democracy.

History

Completed in 1894, the building was gutted by a fire in 1933 and later damaged during World War II. After German reunification, British architect Norman Foster redesigned it in the 1990s, adding the now-famous glass dome that allows the public to look down directly into the plenary chamber.

Visiting Tips
